Drug, burglary offences climb

With recent crime statistics showing that drug offences and burglaries are on the rise in Bendigo, it’s a good time to take stock of the security level of your home or business.

Victoria Police statistics reveal a 73.1 per cent jump in drug offences in the Bendigo police service area in the year to September 2014 from the previous 12 months.

The crime figures also show:

Residential burglaries were up by nine per cent.
Other burglaries, which include those on commercial premises, were up by more than seven per cent.

Theft from cars climbed significantly too, with the number of offences recorded coming in more than 18 per cent higher than the same 12-month period the previous year.

Towns and cities across Australia are being impacted hard by the drug methylamphetamine, known as ice. Drug addiction is a driving force behind many burglaries on homes and commercial premises as well as thefts from cars.
